Today was a very important day for our project, and I am glad that Laura and I were able to talk openly with the deans about their ideas and suggestions. In addition, we were grateful for having Laura's dad/Holbrook's principal show us around the small Holbrook campus that consists of an Administration building, cafeteria, separated girls' and boys' dorm, a barn, and residential houses for staff and family. The Holbrook buildings are not as nice as the academies in California which revealed to us that the place needs some help. Although we are not capable right now to help fix the building structures, we hope that we can contribute by helping the girls feel comfortable being themselves and by building their self-esteem. Fortunately, we were able to talk to the deans about what activities we hoped to do with the 7-10th grade girls. At this stage, they are just learning and building their views from their culture and social experiences. We hope that this project will be able to reach out to the girls and help them realize that they are amazing and that they should feel proud to be who they are.
